COVID-19 lockdown only ‘postpones’ third wave problem, UK scientist warns

The UK government’s science adviser warned on Sunday that the ongoing lockdown was only “postponing the problem” – and warned that a third wave of coronavirus next year was “absolutely possible”.

Mark Woolhouse, who sits on the UK’s Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on modeling (SPI-M), rejected the UK’s recent lockdown, saying the vaccine “sticks to this for another six months” in a vague state of widespread availability.

“I have to say that most of the people I have talked to who are involved in vaccine development think that we can have a vaccine in six months, but it is doubtful that by that time we will be able to roll it out on a large scale. , ”He said on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show.

“So we’re in a difficult situation for a few months. I’m afraid,” he warned, warning that another wave would wreak havoc on Europe.

Modeling suggests that a third wave is “absolutely possible,” he warned.

“This is just another demo that doesn’t solve the lockdown problem, it postpones it,” he said.

“That’s why we have on the horizon some sort of equine or alternative, if we think the vaccine won’t be available in six months, or 12 months or two years, or whenever it may be, we need alternatives. ”
