COVID-19 Live Updates: New York Positive Stakes Hit New Low, CDC Concerns over Virus Effect on Children

NEW YORK (WABC) – New York reported the lowest one-day positive rate since the start of the pandemic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday.

65,812 tests were performed on Saturday, with only 0.7% positive tests.

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control have growing concerns about the effect of the coronavirus on children.

The agency estimates that about 600 children died with a rare disease linked to COVID-19. Experts say that multi-system inflammatory syndrome attacks a child’s vital organs.

It has been found in children in more than 40 states, as well as the District of Columbia. Of those 600 children, 10 died.

Doctors also say that Latino and Black children mainly come with the mysterious disease – they make up almost three-quarters of all cases.

More than four months after a persistent outbreak, the US reached a staggering milestone of 5 million confirmed infections, easily the highest in the world.

Health officials believe the actual number is closer to 50 million, given limitations to testing and the fact that up to 40% of all cases are asymptomatic.
