Costco extends special senior shopping hours indefinitely due to covid spike

According to an update on the retailer’s website, Costco will extend its senior shopping hours “until further notice” due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.

Eligible customers for special operating hours include people aged 60 and over and disabled or those who are immunocompromised. Guests will not be admitted.

The company had earlier planned to reduce hours for seniors and other sensitive shoppers in June but reversed it after a surge in cases last summer.

Currently, Costco’s designated senior shopping hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.., Monday to Friday. However, there are some exceptions in various places, including:

• Phoenix, AZ: Senior shopping hours are Monday through Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. for the following locations: Mesa, SE Gilbert.

Excluding locations in Massachusetts during the senior purchase period, Costco members who are first responders, such as health care workers and police officers, EMTs and firefighters, will also be given temporary priority admission. Health care workers (including pharmacists and hospital staff with all hospital IDs) and first responders presenting Costco membership cards and official identification of their roles will be allowed to cross any line to enter the warehouse.

In addition, all Puerto Rico locations will be closed from Monday to Friday, December 7, 2020 to January 7, 2021.
