New coronavirus infections in Europe have seen the largest spikes in the country, with the number of daily cases rapidly increasing from hundreds to thousands.
Balanced for the population, only Spain and France have seen a large increase in EU countries this month.
The government has responded by tightening measures, including limiting the opening hours of bars from Friday, banning indoor events and increasing the use of masks in schools.
It hopes to avoid the massive lockdown that was imposed at the start of the epidemic in March that hurt the economy.
The health ministry’s figures released on Friday showed 3,130 new cases on Thursday, up from 2,137 a day earlier.
In all, 44,155 cases were reported in 10.7 million countries, almost twice as many as in August. It has recorded 489 deaths since September 1, an increase of 15%.
The latest daily growth is almost identical to the number of cases received between April 22 and June 17, the period in which the daily number was largely in double digits.
The government says cases are on the rise among young people while the number of positive tests for over-the-counter testing is declining. Hospitalization has returned to the surrounding peaks seen in April.
Czech health officials say the number of cases could reach 20,000,000 this month under a pessimistic outlook, with the average number of people infected with the virus passing R1.6.

Indonesia Says its average daily mortality from coronavirus is 105 cases – a 25% increase from last week.
Kovid Taskforce spokesman Viku Adisasmito also announced that as of September 17, more than 122 people had died from the virus, bringing the death toll in Indonesia to 9,222.
The virus has killed more than 100 people in Indonesia for most of September, as the death toll continues to rise, topping the 139 reported on July 22.
Adisamito also said that there are now 56,570 active cases in the country.
