Right-wing think tank Liberty Works has challenged a federal court ruling against Australia’s travel ban, arguing that the health minister, Greg Hunt, has no power to stop citizens from leaving the country.

The case is the first major challenge to Australia’s strict external border restrictions, which were introduced in March to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The case will not attempt to overturn the cap on the number of arrivals in Australia – which human rights organizations have warned could violate international law.

The National Cabinet agreed to ban Australia from leaving Australia, subject to limited exceptions, in an effort to limit the number of citizens exposed to the coronavirus seeking to return abroad:

WHO research team expects visit to Wuhan to investigate coronavirus origin

A research mission from China’s World Health Organization will arrive in Wuhan next month, examining how the novel coronavirus went from animals to humans, and where it emerged earlier in a different place than the original idea.

Fabian Leandertez, a biologist at the Robert Koch Institute in Germany and a member of the WHO’s 10-person mission team, told the Associated Press that he would work with Chinese scientists for four to five weeks.

Most scientists believe that the virus SARS-Cove-2 originated in animals in China, probably bats, before jumping on humans. The first case involving a seafood market in Wuhan was first discovered in late December 2019. Since then, more than 73.3 million people have been diagnosed with the virus, and 1.63 million have died:
