Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 436 new cases, 3 deaths

Oregon health officials reported 436 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, a count approaching a record set just days earlier.

The Oregon Health Authority also reported three deaths, bringing the number of COVID-19 deaths in the state to 260.

Cases have increased when the state began reopening business and public life, and more cases have been seen as a result of a previously undetected spread in the community, rather than contact with known cases or outbreaks in the workplace.

Hospitalizations have also increased to levels not previously seen during the pandemic, indicating that more people experience the most severe symptoms of COVID-19. As of Friday, 158 people were hospitalized across the state with the disease.

The daily record for recently reported cases in Oregon is 437, set Thursday. The state had set new records for the past three consecutive weeks.
