American College Health Association CEO Devin Jopp discusses the drive for students to return to college amid the coronavirus and how institutions ensure safety.
Bowdoin College, a private liberal arts institution located in Brunswick, Maine, is committed to providing its students with iPad Pros, while the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in the United States.
Online classes are scheduled for the fall semester, which begins on September 2, according to the school’s academic calendar. The iPads will be “fully equipped” with Wi-Fi and mobile data connectivity, so students can complete their courses from a safe distance, the university’s news announcement explained.

Depending on which iPad Pro configuration the school has purchased, the cost can range from $ 949 to $ 1,649 per student, not including AppleCare + taxes or coverage.
An Apple Pencil 2 ($ 119) and an Apple Magic Keyboard ($ 279 to $ 329) will also be included.
However, the university may enroll in Apple’s educational institution discount program, which may reduce the cost.

“This really levels the playing field for students for whom Internet access has been unreliable or non-existent,” said Bowdoin College Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Michael Cato. “This is an example of how Bowdoin can really do good online learning for the fall.”
He added that the Teaching and Learning Continuity Group led by the College’s faculty selected the iPad Pro because it provides a laptop-like experience and allows free movement with its built-in cellular capabilities.

Faculty and staff who teach online, on the other hand, will receive only iPads with Wi-Fi that can connect to the Internet when they are within range of a network.
Bowdoin College had 1,835 students enrolled and 229 faculty members, according to records for Fall 2019.
IPads will be able to run all of the university’s licensed programs and Bowdoin will assist students who need assistance in obtaining reliable Internet service.

Upon graduation, students will be asked to return their iPad. However, they will be able to retain your device if they still need it. The cost of maintaining the iPad is $ 1 at this time.
This iPad program comes at a time when colleges and universities are trying to find solutions to maintain enrollment numbers and ease the burden of online learning challenges.
Similarly, Southwestern College announced that it would give away 200 computers to needy students in April. Meanwhile, other institutions are reducing tuition costs since students will not be on campus as long as there is a pandemic.
