A congressional subcommittee has demanded the recall of a popular flea and tick collar that has been linked to the deaths of 1,700 pets and suspected diseases in tens of thousands.
The manufacturer of the Ceresto collar – the top seller on Amazon and one of the major U.S. pet retailers – Rap king Krishnamurthy (D-Il) demanded an immediate recall, citing reports that he was involved in 75,000 damaging incidents. About 1,000 incidents involving pets and humans, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

“We believe that the actual number of deaths and injuries is much higher, as the agency, which does not appear to be concerned with consumer pet products, does not know how to report pet damage to EPA,” Krishnamurthy wrote in the letter.
The EPA, which regulates pet callers because they contain pesticides, first reported the problem with the callers on March 2, according to USA Today. Investigation Report Center.

Krishnamurthy quoted EPA data in a letter to Jeff Simmons, chief executive of its manufacturer, Alenco Animal Health, saying, “The Siresto collar is the only flea and tick collar that combines a cocktail of two pesticides. While it will make collars more effective against fleas, “obviously, they can be even more toxic to pets and humans,” the legislator added.

Krishnamurthy wrote that a 12-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with seizures and om lati as a result of an incident in which he fell asleep in bed with a dog wearing a collar.
In addition to demanding recalls and refunds, Alanco’s customers have been asked to disclose toxic information about Krishnamurthy, chairman of the subcommittee on economic and consumer policy, and German pharma giant Bayer, who originally developed the caller.
