Committed buckeyes, main objectives reorganized in the rankings
The state of Ohio is recruiting at an incredible rate, even amid the ongoing downtime caused by the pandemic.
And it looks like the Buckeyes won’t slow down for the 2022 class, either. Some of the country’s top prospects are considering the Buckeyes, and three others are already Ohio state pledges. On Wednesday, 247sports.com updated its top 247s in the class of 2022, and there was a lot of movement regarding Buckeyes’ top commitments and goals.
The new No. 1 player in the United States is Quinn Ewers, a quarterback from Southlake, Texas, whom the Buckeyes offered before playing football in high school. Another main Buckeyes target, Marysville linebacker Gabe Powers, remained in the top 50 despite dropping four spots to No. 47. Now, the No. 1 outside linebacker in the country, he is expected to choose the state. from Ohio. Shawn Murphy, another top linebacker target, is number 55. Many more targets are high-ranking players.
And all three compromised prospects are in the top 247. CJ Hicks, a Dayton linebacker, registered at No. 101, 61 points higher than the last ranking update. Offensive line pledge Tegra Tshabola dropped to 238, while cornerback Jyaire Brown’s pledge is at number 115.
The state of Ohio has many prospects for the best 247 each year, and the 2022 figures are no different.
ICYMI: Urban Meyer, former Buckeyes break the historic 2012 season
Urban Meyer had quite a few great teams in the state of Ohio. But no team was more important to the show than the undefeated team of 2012.
The Buckeyes defied the odds throughout the 2012 season, Urban Meyer’s first at Ohio State, making a couple of thrilling escapes, overcoming scholarship reductions, disconnecting the bowl ban, and eventually closing the undefeated season with a physical victory over the rival Michigan at the Horseshoe.
There are countless stories from that trip that have yet to be told, and five members of that team joined Meyer at Urban Meyer’s Pint House to tell some in a conversation sponsored by our partners at Byers Auto. CJ Barnett, Evan Spencer, Reid Fragel, Jack Mewhort, and Jake Stoneburner joined Lettermen Row to reflect on that season, and raise a glass for the Ohio State Decade Team.
Bobby Carpenter breaks up with Baron Browning
Baron Browning has the ability to change games from any position in the Ohio state defense. The versatile defender can be a force in the middle in the linebacker. You can go back to cover and run side to side to make plays. And it can certainly create havoc on the backcourt as an edge runner for the Buckeyes.
The results clearly show the right path for Browning, who battled a muscle injury last year to finish with 10 loss tackles and 5 sacks in the best statistical season of his career with the program. There’s still more room to grow there, and Browning’s dynamic ability and ability to rush the passer even further this year should allow him to beat those numbers even in a shorter season.
What makes Baron Browning such a disruptive force for the state of Ohio? Where is the best place to unleash your athleticism in defending the Buckeyes? How high is the ceiling for the senior linebacker? Former Ohio State and NFL star Bobby Carpenter appeared in a movie and answered those questions in the latest episode of BuckIQ.
