Local businesses in Colorado can call local police to report those who refuse to wear masks for trespassing, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said in an interview with NBC “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

On Thursday, the Democratic governor announced a mask mandate for the state of Colorado. The executive order specifies that all persons over the age of 10 “must cover their nose and mouth when entering or moving into any interior public space.” Furthermore, the mandate states that “a person who endangers the health of others by entering or remaining in a covered public space” may “be subject to civil or criminal penalties.”

“Look, in Colorado, there is no shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service,” Polis said during a press conference where he announced the new term, the Denver Post reported. She also added that wearing masks should not be “political statements,” according to the newspaper.

Also in Sunday’s NBC interview, the Governor of Colorado said “the national testing scene is a total disgrace” and that the response time for tests is “almost useless from an epidemiological or even diagnostic perspective.”

According to Johns Hopkins University data on testing efforts by state, Colorado tested 7,451 and confirmed 690 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people.

Colorado’s new state mask mandate comes when workers across the country have shared experiences of harassment by asking customers to wear masks. 44% of McDonald’s workers said they had been physically verbally assaulted for approaching customers who were reluctant to wear masks, according to a new survey by Service Employees International Union.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox News broadcast on Sunday, President Trump said he will not issue a national mandate to wear masks, saying he wants “people to have some freedom.”
