The night of January 2 seemed calm and welcoming for the residents of the El Campestre neighborhood. Adults, youth and children walked through its streets, welcoming 2021 and enjoying the first Saturday of this new return of the sun.
In the background you could hear a champeta and dozens of voices and laughter but, from one moment to another, all those sensations froze.
What happened?
At around 7 pm, a hail of gunfire alerted the worst. Death arrived on a motorcycle and disappeared like a ghost, leaving the community mired in uncertainty.
In one of its main streets, near the Catholic church in the area, a white Chevrolet Dmax truck, license plate DQQ 979, was parked and, from the pilot’s window, which was open, blood was pouring out. There, dying was Yendri Pérez. He was the target of the hitmen.
It is unknown where the gunmen fled but, it is presumed that they were chasing Pérez and took advantage of the fact that he opened the door of the vehicle to shoot him repeatedly.
The Metropolitan Police have not given further details of this first hit man in Cartagena in 2021. Neither have been reported arrests, but they seek to establish the motives for the crime.
Outraged
On the other hand, outrage has caused a video of this fact published on social networks. There you can see how dozens of onlookers arrive at the place and record Pérez’s last sighs without providing further attention or assistance.
For many, Pérez’s life could be saved if he had been helped in time.
