Sofía’s moving farewell: Rionegro mobilized in a tribute for the murdered girl

This Saturday, December 19, the population of the municipality of Rionegro, northeast of Medellín, gave a moving farewell to the under 18-month-old, Sofía Cadavid, after local authorities found her dead in events involving her father , Diego Armando Cadavid Álvarez, as the main suspect in the crime.

The procession led by the hearse that carried the body of the little girl was accompanied by relatives and dozens of inhabitants of this Antioquia municipality who, with white balloons, banners and wreaths they gave the last farewell to the youngest of a year and a half.

At the entrance of the church where the minor was veiled, passersby gathered to pay tribute to Sofía, a victim of a femicide that, according to the priest of Rionegro, should generate a reflection in society.

“How far do we have to go, how many people does it have to touch, how many families does it have to go through in order for us to actually approve the death penalty or life imprisonment in Colombia. This has to happen now, it can’t take any longer ”, a relative of the minor, Jenifer Carolina Duque, told Noticias Caracol.

For his part, the mayor of Rionegro, Rodrigo Hernández reported that a Family Police Station and Family Undersecretariat to monitor and attend to these cases of domestic violence in a timely manner, as well as Hugging Families Mobile Units for support with specialized officials.

“In the month of April of next year, it is expected that they will remain functional, because prior to having a technical study that we hope will yield that result of the needs we have to implement and strengthen an institutional framework that allows a very efficient response to cases of intra-family violence” Hernández said.

Upon leaving Sofia Cadavid’s vigil mass, her relatives released the white balloons and their letters to the sky amid applause from the community that dismissed the little girl amid the consternation of her case.

In the early morning of this Friday, December 18, the Mayor’s Office of Rionegro, east of Medellín, announced that The authorities had found the 18-month-old minor, Sofía Cadavid, who was reported missing in the afternoon hours of this Thursday.

Hours later, the Attorney General’s Office reported that the father of the minor, Diego Armando Cadavid Álvarez, was captured in the capital of Antioquia by CTI units, in a joint effort with the military Gaula and the National Police, as the alleged person responsible for the atrocious crime.

According to the information provided by the judicial entity, Cadavid recognized in the interrogation that it was he who murdered his own daughter, an 18-month-old baby. Furthermore, in the investigations carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office, it was evidenced that the minor was “beaten to death” by her father, for an alleged revenge against Luisa Fernanda Henao, the girl’s mother and the subject’s ex-partner.

However, during the indictment hearing in which he was accused of committing the crime of aggravated femicide, Diego Cadavid denied all responsibility and participation in the act.
