“He is being held in a Texas jail, I don’t remember his name, he tells me they treat him well and respect him“.
The statement was made to EL TIEMPO by José Elías Viáfara, father of former soccer player Jhon Viáfara, who was extradited on January 24 of this year to the United States, where he is being prosecuted for drug trafficking.
With a measured voice, José Elías points out that every time his son calls it is “a house party, we all want to talk to him“.
The father of the one who played in teams like Pasto and América de Cali, pointed out that Jhon has told him that he is “calm, with the faith in God that he will soon be with us“.
According to his dad, the 42-year-old midfielder has made several friends. “An advantage is that he speaks English, he has told us that they treat him very well and that he eats well, that reassures us a lot as a family,” he says.

If you ask me what I asked the Child Jesus for Christmas, I can only answer you: the freedom of my son
“Although the truth is, I feel that Jhon is distressed sometimes, I imagine it is normal, to be far away. If you ask me what I asked for the Christmas Child Jesus, I can only answer you: the freedom of my son“José Elías said in a low voice.
The former footballer’s father, who played in teams such as Portsmouth in England and Real Sociedad in Spain, points out that he has not asked Jhon about his Christmas request, but believes he is sure that it is to meet soon, as a family.

“According to what he tells us, he has not had problems with anyone, they respect him and even love him, and that is his way of being, a friend of everyone,” said the firefighter from El Roble, a hamlet of Jamundí, in the Valle del Cauca, precisely the place where the soccer player was born.
Mr. Viáfara assured that by this end of the year, for Christmas and 31, he will be quartered, as appropriate for his work as a firefighter. “We will be vigilant that gunpowder is not used, that children are not going to burn, and of course, that there are no crowds due to the pandemic.”
He stressed that his wife will meet with their two children and their family. “There will be a place reserved for Jhon“, he specified.

Here at El Roble, 90 percent are from America, and we are going to celebrate“, he pointed out, sure that from the jail in which Jhon Viáfara spends his days he will be making force for América de Cali.
