Álex Saab: Nicolás Maduro sends a curious message to Cape Verde – Investigative Unit

The Foreign Ministry of Venezuela has just issued a lengthy message, Christmas Eve, talking exclusively about one issue.

It does not refer to the United States sanctions against the dictatorship, nor to the Russian espionage plot in Colombia, nor to the lack of food and medicine in that country. In two pages, the regime refers exclusively to its ‘special agent’, the Barranquilla Álex Saab.

(We invite you to read: Cape Verde denies home jail to Álex Saab and defies ruling)

In a less inquisitive tone, he asks Cape Verde to allow Saab to spend the end of the year with his family.

In addition, he reiterates that, in a ruling of December 2, the West African Court of Justice (ECOWAS) ordered his immediate release for having spent 40 days in prison without having his legal situation resolved.

In a paragraph that is having multiple readings, it is ensured that “for a future of peace and justice”, It is requested that a humanitarian measure be extended to him that allows him to spend these holidays together with his family. However, it does not explain the term ‘future of peace’.

The Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Jorge Arreza, published the statement

“Venezuela calls on the institutions of the State of the sister Republic of Cape Verde so that (….) It be granted to the Venezuelan citizen Alex Nain Saab Morán, unjustly detained in that country since last June 12, a humanitarian measure that allows him to share with his loved ones in freedom, a condition that should never have been taken from him, “says the statement, released from the official account of Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza.

And adds that Saab He has been a special envoy since 2018, and that among his functions are to facilitate the obtaining of supplies of medicines, food and other goods, in the face of the blockade of the United States administration.

And it reiterates that, despite the fact that Cape Verde is part of ECOWAS and has agreed to be a full member of the Tribunal, its institutions and authorities have not implemented the measure adopted by the Tribunal.
