El País SA, the publishing house of the newspapers El País and Q’hubo Cali, deeply regrets and rejects the murder of Andrés Felipe Guevara Henao, a journalist who died this Wednesday after fighting for his life for two days after being the victim of an attack with gun last Monday.

“The murder of Andrés Felipe is one more example of the other pandemic that Cali suffers, that of violence, which has already mourned the families of more than a thousand victims of homicide cases this year. It is also a reflection of the multiple threats that today threaten Colombian journalists in the exercise of their work and that represent an enormous risk to democracy itself, “said María Elvira Domínguez Lloreda, director and general manager of this journalistic house.

At El País SA we recognize the work carried out by the judicial authorities to clarify the facts. However, we strongly appeal to you so that the investigation that allows us to reach the truth, capture those responsible and bring justice to justice, be carried out with the utmost diligence and efficiency.

“The crime of the journalist Andrés Felipe Guevara Henao cannot be, like so many others in this country, forgotten in the archives of impunity,” Domínguez Lloreda stressed.

This house sends its deep and sincere voice of solidarity to Andrés Felipe’s family, especially his mother and his sentimental partner.

Likewise, to the entire journalistic union of the city, to whom we give infinite thanks for their voices of solidarity, expressed from the very moment the unfortunate events were presented.

“The journalistic family of Q’hubo and El País will always remember Andrés Felipe as that brave, passionate, responsible and committed reporter with the highest values of journalism. A young journalist who in his short career stood out for giving the best of himself for its cause, the job in which he always managed to shine as a great professional and a better human being. In his memory, we will continue working so that journalism continues to be that indispensable tool of social justice that this country so badly needs. “, said the director and general manager.
