In the most recent edition of SEMANA magazine, President Iván Duque gave a long interview in which he spoke about different issues of national current affairs.
In the initial part of the conversation, The president referred to the controversy generated by his identification as one of the “extreme center” in the political spectrum.
“When I was a candidate, they told me that I was from the extreme right. Those on the extreme right, in turn, said that I was from the extreme left. From there I answer that I am from the extreme center. I believe in placing the issues that matter to the country under a vision that is not subject to polarization or ideological manipulation. I believe that extremes do a terrible damage to democracy”, He declared.
When asked about a sector of Uribismo that manifests being concerned because by identifying itself as being from the “extreme center” it shows that it is a shameful Uribista, the president was emphatic in answering: “That is not true. There are some sectors of the extreme right that never forgave me that I have beaten them ”.
This answer does not seem to have pleased Senator María Fernanda Cabal, who through Twitter shared a photo of SEMANA’s cover with the following question: “Are the extreme right wing conservatives and Republicans who gave victory to Uribe, Santos and Duque? ”.
