In clashes between citizens and the police, an operation against illegal transport ended which was held on Friday afternoon in the El Codito neighborhood, in the town of Usaquén, in the north of Bogotá.

According to the first information of the fact, The riots were caused by the outrage of some citizens who learned that two young men were shot in the police procedure that they were dedicated, apparently, to work with illegal transport in that sector.

The wounded, according to those versions, had previously attacked a uniformed when she required them in the vehicle they were working with on an irregular basis. After the attack they fled, so there was a persecution by the authorities, which ended with shots being fired because the young people had tried to run over several policemen with the car in which they were mobilized.

“It just came to our knowledge then the driver was required, who initially assaults a police officer. Then he runs away, there is a chase in which the vehicle is intercepted in the upper part of the neighborhood. There this person, in an irresponsible way, apparently throws the vehicle against the uniformed men. We have four injured patrols from this procedure, ”said General Oscar Gómez Heredia, commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police.

The officer noted that all the injured were taken to medical centers. “From this procedure we have four injured patrolmen and there are also two injured people. One of them is in critical condition and is in the Simón Bolívar hospital, the other is stable in the same place. Of the police, there is one in the Simón Bolívar, another in the Cardioinfantil, and two more policemen are in the Central Police Hospital, ”General Gómez reported.

As the young men were shot, General Gómez assured that the request was made that the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General’s Office take charge of the case.

“We ask the community for tranquility and We are here present to precisely supervise and verify that the investigations are carried out with total transparency. As we move forward we will be releasing the details, “added the officer.

The event caused the reaction of local community leaders through Twitter. “Neighbors of the codito denounce that the Police today killed a young man who worked with the illegal routes that go up to the sector. We demand to know what happened. “said the mayor of Usaquén Lina García.

Al Codito also attended the Secretary of Government, Luis Ernesto Gómez, who asked citizens to remain calm and await the results of the investigations that were started by this fact.

There is a full presence of our institutions, of course of our National Police, but also of the entire team of the Prosecutor’s Office that will be present to clarify the facts. The Human Rights team of the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá is in dialogue with the community, trying to reconstruct what happened, “said the official.

And it is that, in this area of Bogotá, for more than a decade, due to the historical deficit of public transport to reach the high areas of El Codito, and the surrounding neighborhoods of that sector of Usaquén, They informally operate trucks, vans and camper vans that mobilize the inhabitants of the area.

In the newspaper El Espectador, one of the councilors of Usaquén stated that this problem had generated disturbances of order on previous occasions. “Those riots had already passed and We had already asked for a consultation table before the Ombudsman, to solve this issue and it has been almost a year since this administration and they ignored the issue. As the Integrated Public Transport System does not cover these sites, there are 120 cars that transport 24,000 people and that is very serious ”, said the mayor Horacio Estrada.

However, it has been the same community, through petition rights, that has requested controls from those who provide these illegal transport services. “It cannot be that before controls and operations that the institution does legitimately, our policemen are attacked,” said General Gómez.
