According to the mayor of Bucaramanga, Juan Carlos Cárdenas Rey, “in the Santander capital Christmas will be with the family, safe and above all very quiet for all citizens.”

As he confirmed to Vanguardia last night, several measures were taken with the government team for the festivities this season. And many of them have to do with the application of the curfew in Bucaramanga.

Which are?

The Mayor said that the official curfew hours will continue as follows: from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am

So, what will be the modifications that this restriction will have?

The first of them will be that between December 15 and 24, during the traditional Christmas Novena, the measure will govern from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am so that the Catholic faithful can participate in these Eucharists.

And on December 31, the curfew will go from 11:00 pm on that last day of the year to 1:00 pm on January 1, 2021.

What is the idea of these atypical schedules?

It is intended that people be judicious and stay at home, with their family, during the most neuralgic time slots in December in terms of congregations, accidents and parties; that is, on December 7, 8, 24, 25 and 31, also including January 1.

What will happen to the pilot plans adopted by the trade?

The pilot plans of the different commercial establishments will continue to function as they have done so far, in such a way that the economic reactivation is not affected. The President specified, yes, that biosecurity measures will be redoubled.

Cárdenas Rey suggested that companies “give afternoons off on December 24 and 31, to anticipate family reunions.”

“The idea with such modifications is that we continue to take care of ourselves, reactivating the economy and having a safe and peaceful Christmas with our families,” added the Head of the Municipal Government.

The Local President said that he hopes that these measures will be unified with the other mayors of the metropolitan area.

It is presumed that today the leaders of Floridablanca, Girón and Piedecuesta would make their announcements.

The initial proposal, raised by the sectional manager of COVID-19, Luis Felipe González Castro, “is to say no to all kinds of agglomerations to avoid more infections by coronavirus in Bucaramanga and Santander.”

Furthermore, the governor himself, Mauricio Aguilar Hurtado, anticipated the leaders and dared to say publicly that “this year the Day of the Candles, Christmas and the end of the year celebration will be atypical.”

According to him, “all municipal authorities should extend preventive measures throughout the month of December to avoid crowds and new infections of coronavirus, the virus that has already claimed the lives of nearly 2,000 people in the region.”

“This is going to be a completely different Christmas. We want to ask mayors to also be tough about enforcing curfew and social distancing; stop clandestine parties that can increase infections in municipalities; and avoid situations to regret ”, stressed the Sectional President.

“Infections from COVID-19 are on the rise. Every day more than 400 people are diagnosed with the disease in Santander, so controls are urgently needed to avoid business parties and mass events, “added Aguilar Hurtado.

By late afternoon yesterday, 418 new infections and 14 more deaths from COVID-19 were reported in Santander.

In the most recent balance, the health authorities confirmed that the total number rises to 53,314 infected in our region since the pandemic began.

According to the COVID-19 Manager, “disorder and lack of prevention reign in all neighborhoods in the area.”

He said that the same epidemiologists recommend that the meetings be virtual, also that biosafety protocols are fully complied with.

“Christmas bonus and novenas masses should be avoided; We ask the churches to replace themselves with virtual activities to prevent the spread of the virus in these types of places, ”said Laura Rodríguez, an expert epidemiologist.

To avoid the crowds in the parks this year, the Mayor of Bucaramanga will not install Christmas lighting and this tradition will be replaced by caravans in the neighborhoods, after a few days that the Municipal Institute of Culture will lead.

These are the measurements

2. The commercial activities will end at 11:00 pm

3. The pilot plans of the different commercial establishments will continue to function as they have done up to now.

4. Between December 15 and 24, during the traditional Christmas Novena, the curfew will go from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am for citizens to participate.
