Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins received a few words of encouragement on Twitter Tuesday, and it was from someone who is least expected.
The conversation started when famed college basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale tweeted at Haskins on Tuesday, asking the rising second-year passer what his favorite option is for Washington’s new nickname, and further stated that his choice would be the ‘Redtails.’
How does @NFLWashington Red Tails sound? Many seem to like it, including QB @ dh_simba7 Dwayne Haskins What name does my family of tweets like?

Rather than answer Dickie V’s question about the name, Haskins responded to the college basketball announcer by saying he was surprised that the “GOAT” tweeted him.
That’s crazy, 🐐 tweeted me 😂 https://t.co/Eyx46NzXM3

In response to that, Vitale completely changed gear. Dickie V sent the 23-year-old mini an animated talk, telling Haskins to “show all the critics what’s really good [you are]”If football is played this fall.
Additionally, Dickie V told Haskins to play as he did at Ohio State, where the Washington quarterback broke numerous school records and Big Ten in his only season as a starter in 2018.
If you play football, show all critics how good you really are / show them that your game with the Buckeyes is who you are. Get very lucky and just play like you did in the Ohio State uniform.

To close the conversation, Haskins responded to Vitale by quoting New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, saying, “In Cam’s words, I haven’t seen this Dwayne yet!”
In Cam’s words, I still haven’t seen this Dwayne! https://t.co/ioDu87s2Pz

Despite the coronavirus-disrupted offseason, Haskins has come a long way in his second season. He lost about 20 pounds and significantly reduced his body fat percentage. He has trained with several teammates, and they have praised Haskins’ growth several times this offseason.
With training camp less than two weeks away, it is now up to Haskins to perform when necessary. When football returns, the passer knows he has someone to support him at Vitale.
