Back in May, Farrell pleaded his The Batman role, calls the opportunity to make the character “exciting.”
“To be a part of that universe and just have certain words that are part of my internal lexicon: Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, all these things,” Farrell said at the time GMA News Online.
“The creation of it, the aesthetics of the character, has been fun and I’m really excited to come back and explore,” Farrell added.
Farrell also revealed that the Penguin does not have a major role in the film, which has several other iconic villains, including Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler.

During DC Comics’ virtual FanDome event on Saturday, director Matt Reeves declared that the film follows the “early days” of Batman when Bruce Wayne is “very far from perfect.”
“One of the things that’s interesting is learning how to be Batman. It’s a criminological experiment. He’s trying to figure out what he can do to change this place,” Reeves said. “He sees that he does not have any of the effects he wants. That’s when the murders start to happen … and it opens up a whole new world of corruption. Without being an origin story, it ends to its origin. “
The Batman is expected to open in theaters on October 1, 2021.
