International media released the case of a 26-year-old Iranian girl named Zahra Ismaili, who last week died of a heart attack minutes before being executed by hanging. Despite what happened, the officers carried out the action in the same way.

According to the BBC, Ismaili had been sentenced to the death penalty last January, after being found guilty of the death of an official of the Intelligence Service of that country.

Months before, the subject had been denounced by the young woman, who She had accused him of sexually abusing her and her daughter.

Omid Moradi, the victim’s lawyer, told the media that his client had died while observing how other people were executed in the Rajai Shahr prison, which is located in the city of Karaj.

Despite this, Ismaili’s body was placed on top of a scaffold and hung from a rope, for his sentence to be carried out.

This was a kind of concession given to the mother of the former intelligence official, who eventually kicked a chair that was under the legs of the deceased woman.

The situation was granted under the controversy Sharia law of Qisas (‘eye for an eye’), which gives the victim of the case, or their relative, the possibility of retributive justice.

It should be noted that Iran is the second country in the world, after China, with the most death sentences executed per year. These can reach even those under 18 years of age.

According to a report issued by the UN recently, that country carried out a total of 233 death sentences in its territory until December 2020. Of all of them, two cases involved minors convicted of drug trafficking.

The document added that there was “special concern” over alleged cases of secret executions within Iran.
