A woman died during the afternoon of this Sunday when trying to rescue one of her children in the waters of the Toltén River in Neltume, Villarica commune.

According to information provided by the captain of the port of Lake Villarica, Héctor Rojas, the Colombian woman was bathing in the river’s waters when one of her daughters suffered an accident. Thus, decided to jump into the river to rescue her.

Her daughter managed to get out of the river, however the 34-year-old woman was swept away by the torrent, dying by immersion.

The Prosecutor on duty attended the place in order to adopt the respective procedure, while the antecedents will be made available to the pertinent courts.

The minor was transferred to the Villarrica Hospital to verify injuries and later be handed over to relatives.
