This Monday the Subtel announced that WOMAN was awarded the 20 MHz block of the 700 MHz band for 5G.
Let us remember that in the first instance, the companies had obtained a technical tie by exceeding the minimum threshold of 90,000 points, a figure established in the bidding rules to be entitled to the allocation of the concession, which is why its award was made by auction .
From the agency they indicated that the firm founded by Chris Bannister presented the highest economic offer, which amounts to about 60,777 million pesos (approximately 82 million dollars), which allowed it to exceed Borealnet.
“We are the ministry of both physical and digital connectivity and once again we are taking another great step to improve the quality of life of Chileans,” said the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt.
“By solving the tender in the 700 MHz band, the mobile connectivity network that will revolutionize our digital economy and the services of the country’s telecommunications users begins,” he added.
For its part, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Pamela gidiHe indicated that “this milestone is a sign of the interest that companies have in this industry and the attractiveness of the Chilean telecommunications sector.
“5G will be transformational for the country and from the first minute we decided to work on a process that was transparent, open to all and with very clear rules, achieving a record number of stakeholders,” he emphasized.
What does this WOM win mean?
As stated by the Paperweight site, the 700 Mhz band allows better wave propagation, thus reaching a wider coverage area. In turn, due to the fact that it corresponds to a lower spectrum, signal reception is improved, achieving better reception indoors.
It should be noted that thanks to this award, for the first time WOMAN it will have spectrum beyond the AWS band, which is the only one in which it had space until now. In this way, the firm will not only be able to count on a basis for the deployment of the 5G, but it will also be able to improve the services it already offers due to the greater space -among other characteristics- that the 700 Mhz band has.
Now that the resolution of the Public Tender for the 20 MHz block of the 700 MHz band has already been announced, it would only be necessary to resolve the tiebreaker tender for the AWS bands blocks in the coming days (Thursday, February 11) and 3.5 GHz (Tuesday, February 16).
