This day the constitutional accusation was presented in the Chamber of Deputies against the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
The libel was promoted from Comunes, a member of the Broad Front, and had signatures from other parties of the bloc, as well as from independent deputies, the PPD and the PR. The text did not have PS or DC rubrics.
The document has two chapters, in which the former Minister of Health is accused of having violated the Constitution “by putting the life and health of the population at risk” and of “hiding data and faults in administrative integrity.”
“I thank all the parliamentarians who expressed their support for us and I reiterate my call to the benches of the Socialist Party and the Christian Democracy, who did not join the signatures, so that they do support this accusation in the room,” said the Commons deputy, Claudia Mix, who presented the libel.
He added that “we consider that the former Minister of Health, and we made it clear in the document, seriously violated the Constitution and the laws, putting the life and health of the population at risk. In addition, he deliberately concealed data and committed breaches of integrity. “
In this sense, he assured that “the constitutional accusation against former Minister Mañalich is part of our legislative task, it is a role that we have to exercise as supervisors, especially in the contingency of the pandemic, since poorly implemented public policies have meant the death of more than 16 thousand people, between confirmed and probable cases. It was our duty to present this accusation. History will judge us if we do not do what is right. We cannot guarantee impunity ”.
The current Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, when consulted on this issue, indicated that “the Chamber of Deputies is fully entitled and fulfilling its powers. It will be necessary to see what is the evolution of this accusation, therefore I am not going to pronounce on that fact, but I respect the powers of the parliament ”.
