With the abstention of Pamela Jiles, a new attempt to unseat Chile fails Let’s go from the Chamber table

The room of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies decided to reject the motion of censure to the table presented last week by a group of opposition MPs.

The action was denied by 68 votes in favor, 69 against and 5 abstentions. In this way the members of the front, chaired by Diego Paulsen (RN) and also made up of Francisco Undurraga (Evópoli) and Rodrigo González (PPD), will remain in office.

Key to this new defeat of the opposition were the abstentions of the deputies of the Humanist Party, Florcita Alarcón and Pamela Jiles, as well as the IND, Renato Garín, Félix González (PEV) and Jenny Álvarez (PS). Added to them were the absences of 13 parliamentarians (2 from the ruling party and 11 from the opposition).

During the discussion of censorship, the deputy Gonzalo Winter (CS) on behalf of the four committees that presented the brief (Mixed Liberal, Common and Independent; the Communist; the Democratic Revolution; and the Mixed Humanist, FRVS, Green Ecologist and Independents), explained the motivations of this.

A setback that occurs despite the various negotiations that all the anti-government committees held last week in order to recover the head of the Corporation.

The first reason, according to Winter, was the act of the table, having prevented two parliamentarians from exercising the prerogative to vote on bills, thereby contravening the Constitution. And the second is that they want that in the debate for the withdrawal of 10%, a table related to the initiative represents before the TC, since Paulsen voted against the project.

“I do not think that you or the first vice president have failed to fulfill their functions and I have no ethical or regulatory reproaches in their management, but I believe that I will vote on this request in case it is verified that a majority has been constituted that no longer has political confidence in You, in ideas, agendas and political interests, this Corporation has every right to represent itself by a table that represents the majority, ”said Winter.

For the defense of the table, stated the RN, Andrés Longton: “If censorship prospers there will be no winners, we will be absolutely all losers. And the tyranny of the majority will triumph ”.

“The table is not voted”. This is how the parliamentarians of Chile Vamos celebrated the rejection of the motion of censure.

After the session, Paulsen made a press point to thank the support for his management. “I believe that we have given guarantees of a serious work, up to the circumstances and of what the country demanded of us in recent times. (…). We have a tremendous challenge, which is to move Chile forward and for that they will always have this table, “he said.

“We hope to continue being up to this great challenge,” added the president of the testera.

A harsher stance was taken by the UDI bench chief -and candidate for the party’s presidency- María José Hoffmann, who made harsh criticisms of the opposition and demanded the resignation of the PPD, Rodrigo González from the table.

“We want to show that the left does not offer governance, today it has been shown once again that they cannot support each other, that they are not loyal to each other and that they do not offer governance. Second, we want to demand the resignation of Deputy Rodrigo González from the table immediately. A person who votes in favor of censorship at the table clearly has no interest in being there, ”said the legislator.
