With Mario Salas among the culprits: Alianza Lima descends in Peru

Alianza Lima dropped in category for the second time in its history, after being third to last in the Accumulated Table of Peruvian football. A disastrous campaign that has Mario Salas as one of its main culprits.

This, because the former Colo Colo technician achieved a poor 24% performance since he assumed command of the intimate staff, on June 17, until October 30, the day of his dismissal. A dismissal that was triggered by accumulating six consecutive defeats. Salas directed 18 games on the court and the numbers are eloquent: two wins, seven draws and nine losses, winning just 13 of 54 possible points.

Today, the Blue and Whites depended on themselves to save themselves from going to the Second Division. If they beat Sport Huancayo, their permanence was assured. If they lost, they needed Carlos Stein to lose to UTC de Cajamarca and Atlético Grau to draw or lose to Alianza Universidad. However, Lima’s team fell 2-0 and both Carlos Stein and Atlético Grau tied their respective games.

After his dismissal, Alianza Lima beat Melgar 4-0, including a double from another Chilean member of the team: Patricio Rubio; which led us to suppose that the problem was simply reduced to the trained Chilean. However, that result was only an oasis in the middle of a desert, since in the next match they drew with Deportivo Llacuabamba and then they chained five consecutive defeats, including today’s against Sport Huancayo.

Rubio, who arrived at the express request of Salas, could not be a real contribution to his team either: he played 21 games and barely scored six goals.

Alianza Lima, one of the largest teams in Peru, descends for the second time in its history. The first was on November 27, 1938.
