The Ministry of Health reported that, starting this Friday, anyone can buy a remedy through the internet, including those that require a simple or withheld medical prescription.

This was reported by the Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, after announcing the entry into force of the decree authorizing the electronic commerce of medicines, one of the 31 measures of the National Policy on Medicines.

“This is part of a plan initiated by the President that means greater access to medicines, at a lower cost and with more security, without people having to leave their homes,” he said.

The authority added that with the entry into force of this regulation “it causes a breakdown of monopolies that manage the pharmaceutical supply. This decree has the effect of regulating a market that was irregular because it was not subject to consistent regulations and gives the option for many more actors, including small pharmacies, interested in using electronic commerce for medicines. ”

In order to sell medicines, pharmacies or pharmaceutical warehouses must have authorization for installation and operation, both the website and the dispatch service, which may be their own or that of third parties.

On the website, the user must be informed of the name of the pharmaceutical product and its active ingredient under the international nonproprietary name, attach a photograph of the product and inform the price of the remedy per unit and per container, which must be clearly stated.

In addition, they will be obliged to have permanent availability of the remedies from the Pharmaceutical Request, offer the bioequivalent alternative and give the option of fractional purchase of medications.

If the remedy has a prescription, a digitized copy can be provided if it is with a simple medical prescription. If it is with retained sale, the person must pass the physical prescription at the time of delivery of the product.

The only drugs that are exempt from electronic sales are those that require a check prescription, such as narcotics.
