We are already a few hours away so that in Chile Let’s welcome 2021, which we hope will be much better than 2020 that is already behind us.

There are many countries that welcome the new year before ours. The inhabitants of Kiribati and Samoa, island nations located in the South Pacific, were the first to say goodbye to 2020 and receive the 2021.

These tropical archipelagos, with a combined population of just over 300,000, greeted the New Year at 10:00 GMT and thus entered on January 1.

The next to receive 2021 were the inhabitants of the New Zealand island of Chatham, located about 680 kilometers southeast of the main islands of that country.

And which is the last country to receive the new year? As curious as it may sound, technically it is the United States.

As stated in the World Time Zone site, this is because the last territories to welcome 2021 are the Baker Island and Howland Island, which belong to the North American giant. When in these places it is 00:00, in Chile it will be 09:00 am on January 1.

Howland Island is a small atoll that has just 1.6 square kilometers in area, while Baker Island has 2.1 square kilometers. Both are uninhabited and are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Hawaii and Australia.

Meanwhile, the last inhabited territory to celebrate the new year will be American Samoa, one of the fourteen unincorporated territories of the United States.
