Apparently, only the UDI and the PRI show some openness to reach an agreement for a political and strategic alliance with the Republican Party, and together as brothers, face strengthened the election in April of the constituents who will draft a New Constitution. But, at Renovación Nacional (RN) and Evópoli they look at him with a frown and sidelong.
The above immediately leads to the question: Why don’t they want José Antonio Kast in Chile Vamos?
Thus, while the unionism and the PRI show a greater willingness to incorporate Republicans in this past, in Evópoli and RN there are greater reservations and both point to Kast’s constant questioning of the President, the Government and even against leaders of the same ruling party .
They are not convinced, despite Kast’s public letter in which he called on the ruling party parties to put aside differences, for the greater good.
“We don’t have a President”
It is not difficult to find statements where the presidential candidate of the Republican Party has lashed out at the Government. Sharp and without anesthesia.
“The President has tried to claim a victory, where? If he was part of the problem, ”Kast said after Sunday’s Plebiscite.
“The Government has made more mistakes than all the carabinieri put together”, were the incisive JAK said two weeks ago commenting on the actions of the police in the protests.
“No single mention of the minister Jaime Mañalich and the 100 days in which he and his family sacrificed for Chile. Chile’s payment ”, Kast said in June of this year, on his Twitter account, after the President’s message about COVID-19 measures and the departure of the former Health Minister.
“This is a government that was knocked out, inoperative and incapable of restoring public order and progress, and the one who leads that government is President Piñera (…). I am not interested in his resignation (…). Unfortunately, it was the Government that abandoned us, ”he told Pauta, earlier, in March 2020, due to the way the President had run the country after October 18, 2020.
“It has failed the country”, he added, more conclusively, in the same interview.
“Today we do not have a President. Sebastián Piñera is a ghostly figure, he haunts the corridors of La Moneda and from time to time he appears with unfortunate statements and extemporaneous laments. But his leadership is non-existent and his executive leadership capacity is absent, ”said the former UDI deputy in an opinion column published in El Libero the same last March.
The above are just some of the controversial opinions put on the table by the Republican leader against the Government.
Not only against Piñera
However, Kast’s fights with Chile Vamos do not remain exclusively in criticism against the Executive, he has also thrown darts against leaders of the ruling party, with the exception of the president of the UDI, Jacqueline van Rysselberghe, with whom he seems to have good relations.
But leaders of RN and Evópoli have suffered the attacks of the far-right presidential candidate.
“Once again, Mario Desbordes joining the political misery of the left and giving the President a low blow amid the most critical moment of the pandemic. A government coalition with these ‘leaders’ had and will not have any destiny, “Kast wrote on his Twitter account last June to prosecute the criticism of the then national RN helmsman for the presence of musicians at the funeral of Bernardino Piñera, with the assistance of the presidential family.
Kast also got into a fight with Desbordes himself for the approval of the first withdrawal of 10% of the AFPs, yes, with mixed criticism.
To the above, this year, Kast adds a dispute with the senator today Marcela Sabat, who as a deputy, last June, celebrated the approval of the post natal bill.
When you win with the left, it is the left that wins https://t.co/YfSYQanJ2t
– José Antonio Kast 🇨🇱 (@joseantoniokast) July 4, 2020
The response of former deputy Sabat did not take long to arrive:
You’re wrong. Neither the left nor the right wins. Those who won were the thousands of Mothers and their children, who today will have a concrete state response to face this crisis without exposing themselves to contagion. #PostNatalDeEmergencia https://t.co/WRA3CIGdCT
– Marcela Sabat Fernández (@MarceSabat) July 4, 2020
Regarding Evópoli, there have also been disputes, but the most significant thing that has bothered its leaders is the criticism of Piñera.
“I would love for Evópoli to make an analysis of its parliamentarians and say who of their relatives are in the Government,” said JA Kast in June 2019, questioning a statement, with a critical sense, by Senator Felipe Kast, after the creation of the Republican Party and its eventual integration into Chile Vamos.
Lavín focus
Criticism aside from Kast has been the focus Joaquin Lavin, the main presidential candidate of the UDI, who is emerging as a competition for the Republican leader in the race for La Moneda.
“As long as we do not regain pre-pandemic employment levels, we should not accept more migrants,” Joaquín Lavín said last August in Zero Tolerance.
Kast replied:
After saying that he was a social democrat, Lavín ends up proposing to close the borders and not accept any migrant. Yet another example of irresponsible populism and xenophobia. The problem is illegal migrants, not foreigners who legally come to contribute to Chile https://t.co/CycSfUaLdB

Or also:
“If he is going to be a presidential candidate with money from Las Condes, let him say so,” Kast said on Radio Zero in July 2018, given Lavín’s profile as a candidate for La Moneda.
To which is added another:
Joaquín, 11 years ago you defined yourself as a “bacheletist aliancista” Today, once again you give ground to the populism of Mayor PC Daniel Jadue who has Venezuela and Cuba as a model. Even when ? https://t.co/DYxj7Ufeo5

RN and Evópoli resist
Regarding the answer to the question that opens this article, about why Chile Vamos does not want Kast, the secretary general of Evópoli, Light Poblete, He told BioBioChile that “Republicans, especially their leader, José Antonio Kast, the truth is that he has publicly been a critic of the Government. What’s more, it has declared itself closer to being opposition to the Government’s guidelines and to the figure of the President of the Republic, to his parliamentarians, to the way of making public policies ”.
“It seems to me that you are not understanding that Chile Vamos is the government coalition that supports President Piñera (…) For Evópoli, the unity of Chile Vamos is our first concern to present a constituent proposal to Chile together with its candidates, who can represent the sector of the center right and the majority of Chileans. That coalition is made up of four parties, which have worked together since 2015, ”added Poblete.
Meanwhile, the president of National Renovation, Senator Rafael ProhensHe publicly indicated that “we maintain the initial position, of several weeks ago. He is not part of Chile Let’s go. In his letter, he says that we have big differences. Well, that he see what the differences are, that he raise them and if he wants to go, that he is within the group, that he is part of the Government, otherwise we have nothing to talk about ”.
Guildism opens
For her part, the president of the UDI, Jacqueline van RysselbergheAs in January, he is also in favor of joining Kast’s party.
“There are things in common, but he has made some videos that are quite disqualifying, therefore, I think that when you want to work as a team you have to ask for your hand, but you also have to offer it, you have to create a climate of unity and I think that he also has to help. Despite that, I think we have to make efforts so that the entire center-right goes on a single list, ”the Bío Bío senator told Emol.
Meanwhile, the president of the PRI, Rodrigo CaramoriHe told BBCL that it is undeniable that we must talk with the Republican Party, because it is an important political force on the right, however, this approach must happen because of the tone of criticism of the Government.
“That is basic. I cannot accept a person who wants to talk or reach an agreement when every other day we are throwing accusations or a little violent phrases at him, ”said Caramori.
Why don’t they want it?
Republican leader José Antonio Kast responded to BBCL the same question that was asked of the ruling party leaders.
Why don’t they want it in Chile Vamos? What are the arguments for not saying yes, right away?
“Chile Vamos has to understand that what is at stake is the future of our country and that it is because of that love for Chile that we must work together ”, he said at the beginning in his answer JAK.
“We have supported the Government when it has done things well and when it has fulfilled the Government’s program. We have voted in favor of projects that do Chile good and we have said loud and clear those that are not. We are neither more nor less than many parties in Chile. We are going to criticize the Government. Today, it’s time to put that aside and work together, ”added Kast.
However,Desbordes is lapidary: “Kast’s problem with us. He accuses us of traitors in the morning and, at noon, offers us to be allies. Nobody understands that ”, he concludes.
