After his dispatch from Congress, the Government promulgated this Thursday the law establishing the Family Emergency Income, aid that will be delivered for three months to the most vulnerable families affected by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

The ministers of Social Development, Sebastian Sichel, and of the Segpres, Philip Ward, led the ceremony in La Moneda to launch this law that seeks to prevent those who have informal jobs – therefore, without fixed income – from leaving their homes to seek sustenance and to comply with restrictive sanitary measures.

This contribution, part of the different initiatives of the Emergency Economic Plan promoted by the Executive, estimated to benefit about 4.5 million of people within the most vulnerable group in the country.

The aid starts at the end of months and consists of 65 thousand pesos for each member of the household the first month, 55 thousand pesos the second and 45 thousand the third.

Specifically, households belonging to the 60 percent more vulnerable of the country in the emergency months and that do not belong to the 10 percent of higher income according to the Socioeconomic Rating of the Social Registry of Homes.

It does not consider those who receive formal income from remuneration, for example, from an employment contract, for whom the Government has already promoted other measures.

Meanwhile, too will help households that have at least one adult over 70 years of age or older with a Basic Solidarity Pension and that they belong to the most vulnerable 80 percent of the country.

Those who believe they belong to the group considered for this contribution, must update their file in the Social Registry of Homes.

Applications to receive the contribution will open on May 20, through the website of the Emergency Family Income. The First payment will be made on May 29.
