16.15. At that time the presidents of the Wide Front (FA) yesterday they left the headquarters of Socialist Party, where at that time the last attempts were made to reach a unitary pact of the entire opposition to register primaries for the election of regional governors.

At the door of the socialist headquarters, the helmsmen communicated their decision to the press, without being aware that precisely that gesture would be the reason that some would use to consider the conversations dead. In these statements – given by the presidents of Commons, Jorge Ramírez and of Fuerza Común, Fernando Atria – the leaders explained that they still saw “space” to reach an agreement and that they would go to Servel prepared to register primaries among all or only as Wide Front.

In parallel, on the second floor of the house, the electoral managers of the block stayed in the office set up for the general meeting, waiting for the presidents of the Progressive Convergence to arrive. Álvaro Elizalde (PS), Heraldo Muñoz (PPD) and Carlos Maldonado (PR), who, according to the FA, had not arrived at the agreed time to resume the talks. At that time, the communist helmsman was also present in that office, William Teillier and the representatives of the PRO, the Social Green Regional Federation (FRVS) and the general secretary of the DC, David Morales.

It was at that moment, almost half an hour before the end of the registration period that Servel had communicated – at 5:00 p.m. – that the conversation took place that condemned the opposition to split against the primaries.

Once the helmsmen of the Progressive Convergence entered the room, Senator Elizalde he asked the representatives of the Broad Front where their leaders had gone. The answer was given by the electoral manager of Common, Camila Rios, who pointed out that they had decided that their helmsmen would go to the Servel for the time they had requested at 16:30, but that they, as an electoral team, had been left with “all the power” to seal a political agreement.

The atmosphere became tense. The news outraged the representatives of the Progressive Convergence, who accused of a true “ploy” behind their backs. According to those present, the FA indicated that there was no reason not to continue with the talks, however, from the former New Majority they ended the negotiations and accused that they were acting behind their “backs”, which they considered a “Betrayal of trusts”.

“While we were still trying to bring positions closer, they went to the Servel, without notifying anyone, they left some representatives of their parties, but the presidents and general secretaries registered primaries to solve the internal problems of the FA where they had two or more candidates with no willingness to vote. reach an understanding with the rest ”. Elizalde stressed, adding that “what they did yesterday is not done.”

In the FA They admit that they sinned from lack of political experience by leaving the Socialist headquarters in the middle of the negotiations. However, they rule out that there has been bad faith in their play. This, despite the fact that they had asked the Servel for the time from 11 in the morning. From the sector, they always understood that the deadline of 5:00 p.m. was fatal and they emphasize that this was the deadline that prevailed throughout the negotiation. However, in the former Concertación they assure that the law is clear and speaks of “24 hours of the sixtieth day”, so they do not believe that the Frente Amplio did not have that in sight when they left for Servel.

According to the FA, the departure of its presidents to the Servel occurred after the PL helmsman, Luis Felipe Ramos, alerted his RD counterpart, Catalina Pérez -who was outside the socialist headquarters- that they had left a few minutes for the appointment scheduled at the electoral body to be passed. With that, both presidents went in the deputy’s car to the Servel offices, where they later met with their peers from Commons and Social Convergence, Alondra Arellano.

With everything, in the Broad Front they assure that they transmitted to their counterpart that they had scheduled an appointment with the organization for any of the scenarios. According to the official record of the service, the block ended up registering primaries apart from the rest of the center-left at 4:55 p.m. Five minutes before the expiration of the term imposed by the Servel to make the agreements official, but seven hours before the legal term expired.

“To say that the Broad Front deceived the (negotiating) table and was hidden from the Servel is to be untrue,” said Catalina Pérez today in Cooperativa.

Meanwhile, the president of the PC, Guillermo Teillier, supported the statements of the broad front and held the rest responsible. “That incident served as a subterfuge for the leaders of the Progressive Convergence to get up from the table, leave and not talk anymore”, said the helmsman of the party that was finally isolated along with the FRVS and did not join any pact.

Four primaries for regional governors and eight for municipal ones. Those were the races that the Frente Amplio registered as a conglomerate and where its candidates will face on November 29.

In the case of governors, the bloc will hold elections in the Tarapacá, Los Lagos, Valparaíso and the Metropolitan Regions. In the RM they will compete for the former president of RD, Sebastian Depolo, the historian María José Fulfilled for him PL and the former president of Power, Karina Oliva, by Common

Meanwhile, in the case of mayors, the block will have primaries in the communes of Putaendo, Maipú, San Miguel, Til Til, Quinta Normal, Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Villa Alemana.

In the pact that finally inscribed the former Concertation – called Constituent Unit– Meanwhile, contests are anticipated throughout Chile. The most emblematic will take place in the regions of Valparaíso and the Metropolitan Region. In the first, Aldo Valle (backed by the PS and the PPD) and Cristián Mella (DC) will face each other. And in the second Álvaro Erazo (PS), Claudio Orrego (DC) and the former Minister of Health, Helia Molina (PPD). While the Christian Democracy registered in all regions, the PRO It did so in three (Antofagasta, Biobío and Aysén) and Citizens only in the region of The Maule.
