On Thursday night, Mayor Patricio Kuhn delivered a official balance of the search for Thomas, the 3-year-7-month-old boy lost on Wednesday in Caripilun, a rural area in the province of Arauco.
According to government figures, they are currently about 300 people who are dedicated to some work in the middle of the rescue plan between Firefighters volunteers, Carabineros personnel, the Investigative Police, the Armed Forces, experts and volunteers.
Kuhn again called on the general population not to go to the area as part of the search since – despite good intentions being appreciated – teams need space for canine units and drones with thermal footprint to move without distractions.
“Drones need to detect any heat source. If there are people circulating we will have interference. The same goes for tracking dogs. There are several specialized units and they have to do their work quietly, “he said.
In addition, the mayor assured that the dialogue with the Ministry of the Interior has been continuous, from where they ordered to carry out the search until they had results.
“We are committed to accompanying this work until we find Tomás. That is the instruction, what we are going to do, the work in which all those who are here are engaged, “the mayor told the press.
Equipment
At the press point, Kuhn confirmed that new equipment sent from Santiago was received, apart from the arrival of reinforcements to support the search, such as personnel from the PDI’s People Location Brigade (Briup).
At around 10:00 p.m., a coordination meeting ended in which it was agreed that, if a discovery was made with the drones, Infantry personnel will go into action.
However, the mayor ruled out that ground equipment will operate at night due to the lack of natural light.
As confirmed by Kuhn, search surface expanded of the initial 3 to 4 hectares in line with the needs of the research and the lack of results so far.
“Since we arrived we have not stopped looking. The longest extensions are between interviews and, really, all the pain I have is inexplicable, “Moisés Bravo, the boy’s father, told Radio Bío Bío.
