After the massive interruption that affected at least five communes during the night of this Wednesday, the VTR company reported an intentional cut in its optical fiber.

Through a statement, VTR explained that there were two cuts “of a different nature”, affecting the service in Las Condes, Lo Barnechea, Vitacura, La Reina and Ñuñoa.

The first of the cuts was caused by a traffic accident in Andrés Bello with Purísima, around 4:00 p.m.

“While our technical teams were on site trying to repair it, strangers intentionally cut another of our fiber optic networks, which also served as a backup for the first, this time outside one of our main distribution centers, the HUB of the commune of La Florida “, they indicated.

“VTR reiterates its more absolute condemnation of this type of event, that seriously harm people, who today more than ever need to be connected. The company will immediately take legal action, filing the twenty-ninth complaint against those who are responsible for this serious situation, which has already exceeded 200 events in the last nine months, “they lamented.

Finally, the company assured that it will compensate customers affected by the cut.

In the middle of the situation, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications announced that he will officiate the company to provide more information regarding the causes of the problem and the actual number of affected customers.

“According to information provided by VTR, the failure was due to two outages in its fiber optic network. In this line, the cause of one would be a fire, while the other is still under investigation,” Subtel said. .

Meanwhile, he stressed that, according to current regulations, “users are entitled to a discount on their monthly fee for any suspension, interruption or alteration of a service for reasons not attributable that exceeds six hours in a day or twelve discontinuous hours in a month. “

This is the second consecutive interruption registered by VTR this week, after the one that affected both the internet and the telephone service between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in the commune of Maipú.
