A long-term earthquake, the intensity of which was not reported, generated the emission of ash and pyroclasts with a column that rose 160 meters above the crater of the Villarrica volcano, which remains under the Yellow Alert, both technical and for the civil protection system.

The Villarrica demonstration registered shortly before 7:00 p.m., adds to another 13 expulsions of particulate matter and pyroclasts registered since August of this year, which generate dense fumaroles that rise several hundred meters from the crater of the Andean massif, according to the specialized POVI portal of the Volcanes de Chile Foundation.

This Saturday the monitoring equipment installed on the slopes of the volcano and in the surroundings, detected a long-term earthquake, followed by an explosion that expelled particulate material and pyroclasts, which according to the Volcanological Observatory of Los Andes del Sur, OVDAS, based in Temuco, generated a fumarole that rose more than 160 meters above the crater, being dispersed by the wind towards the south-southeast, ash falling towards that flank.

The regional director of the National Emergency Office, ONEMI, confirmed the demonstration warned in the massif.

In accordance with the foregoing, the Yellow Alert of the Civil Protection System, for the Villarrica, Pucón and Curarrehue communes in La Araucanía and the Panguipulli commune in the Los Ríos region due to activity from the Villarrica volcano, which has been in force since August 6, 2019 and was updated on October 8, 2019 .
