An escort of the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, fired about 13 shots at a group of criminals who had tried to steal objects from the authority’s fiscal vehicle. This happened early this Monday, in a service center, before the Secretary of State was picked up from his home. According to the Carabineros, the bodyguard – “a noncommissioned officer who has vast experience and performs functions of protection of important people” – shot when threatened with firearms from inside the car in which the thieves fled. The images from the security cameras of the compound show the police running after the criminals and shooting repeatedly, despite being in a public sector, where other vehicles were passing. The registry does not allow to warn if the carabinero was, indeed, pointing a weapon by the antisocials, one of whom died later in the Las Condes Clinic.
