Van Rysselberghe faces the Comptroller’s Office for questioning the Carabineros

As “a very serious fact”, the senator and president of the UDI, Jacqueline van Rysselberghe, described the formulation of charges that the Comptroller General of the Republic raised, through a summary investigation, against seven generals of the high command of the Carabineros before their eventual responsibility in police procedures that did not comply with protocol in the control of public order during the social outbreak.

The parliamentarian stated that “This is an attribution that exceeds the powers that the law grants to the Comptroller’s Office, an entity that is called upon to rule on the administrative acts of the State and not on the way in which the police exercise their police function in the maintenance and control of the public security”.

“In addition,” said the top UDI leader, “the Comptroller’s Office acts as judge and party in this case, without allowing the notified police officers to have the opportunity to defend themselves.”

Van Rysselberghe noted that “It would be good for the Comptroller to leave their offices for a while and go to learn about the complex work that the Carabineros must carry out to maintain public order in the streets, facing groups of violent men who attack them without contemplation.”

“It seems to me to be a very delicate situation, because the Comptroller’s Office is assigning itself functions that correspond to the courts of justice. It is the latter who are called to investigate and establish sanctions in the event that irregularities are detected in police action when controlling public order, ”the UDI president pointed out.

The legislator warned that this is not the first time that the Comptroller’s Office has exceeded its powers. “If these sanctions are carried out, a dire precedent will be set regarding the interference of the Comptroller’s Office in functions as sensitive as those carried out by the police to confront crime and violence. This investigation and the lifting of charges is inadmissible, and it is another call for attention so that once and for all the Comptroller’s Office is required to stick exclusively to the tasks for which it is empowered by law and not continue to overreach, “he said. .

Moreira: “Carabineros exposed their life”

In turn, Senator UDI Ivan Moreira noted that “while justice does not condemn hundreds of extreme left violentists or the lumpen, who sowed destruction and terror in the social outbreak, today the Comptroller’s Office is dedicated to persecuting the Carabineros, their high command.

In Moreira’s opinion, the uniformed “They were precisely the ones who protected all Chileans from a major disaster, exposing their own lives.”
