A complaint before the PDI and the request for the protection of the public force are the measures adopted by the Federico Santa María de Valparaíso Technical University (USM), after receiving a threat of an armed attack by a group calling itself “nationalist”, who warned of a “massacre” against teachers and directors.
Indeed, BioBioChile had access to an email sent to various members of the community of higher education, where they attached a photograph of an AK-47 assault rifle, and branded it as a “shitty university, scourges of the State and society ”.
In the message, the self-proclaimed “patriot” group indicates that it will attack the headquarters with “22 men armed with AK-47s”, who would be “capable of sacrificing their life and freedom for this country.” Some of them, they assure, would be monitoring the teachers.
Faced with this, the house of studies repudiated the message of hatred and violence, ensuring that it is already taking steps together with the corresponding authorities to investigate the origin of it and protect its officials.
“We inform that this Friday, August 28 at 5:08 p.m., members of our University received an email, with serious threats to members of the community of the Central Casa Valparaíso Campus,” they indicate.
“Faced with this regrettable, violent and cowardly fact, our University has filed complaints with the competent authorities, in order to protect the integrity of the people of our House of Studies and clarify the origin and those responsible for such despicable events; without prejudice to other actions that the law contemplates for this purpose ”, the letter continues.
The statement indicates that the police were also asked to apply security protocols and all the corresponding measures that guarantee the well-being of the members of the institution.
“As a University we categorically repudiate this type of message, which, along with inciting hatred, contains insults and threats to members of our community. Likewise, we categorically and unwaveringly reject any act of violence, which is totally contrary to the principles of our institution, which recognizes reasoning and high-level discussion as the only legitimate tools for the treatment of institutional matters, and that, from the knowledge and development of talents and capacities, has contributed throughout its history to building a better and more just society ”, he concludes.
