This Friday the Judicial Power of the United States reported the death of the judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, of the Supreme Court, at 87, due to complications derived from pancreatic cancer he suffered.
Ginsburg died “tonight surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, DC,” the court said in a statement.
Bader was known for being the oldest of the liberal wing of the highest court, and a pioneer for women’s rights in the legal arena, ABC News reported. The judge had already suffered 5 episodes of cancer, the most recent earlier this year.
Bader, nicknamed RBG by her supporters, became known for her liberal stances on divisive issues, including such matters as abortion, marriage equality, immigration, healthcare and anti-discrimination measures.
As Yahoo News found, before Ginsburg died, he told his granddaughter Clara Spera that “my most fervent wish is that she not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
He held a similar position in 2016, when Barack Obama held the US presidency, after the death of Judge Antonin Scalia, stating then that “this nomination must be made by the president we are in the process of electing this year.”
