This Sunday the journalist graduated from the University of Chile, Manola Robles, passed away. Within her long career in various Chilean and foreign media, she stood out for her great contribution from Radio Cooperativa in times of dictatorship, as a staunch defender of Human Rights and for her contribution to the development of journalistic work in dark times of the recent history of the country.

Without a doubt journalism was his passion. A graduate of the University of Chile, Manola Robles, defined herself as “simply a journalist-reporter-interviewer”. On more than one occasion she confessed that she had wanted to study theater and they had not left her. And, that journalism was “his other love.”

This is how he entered the public campus in 1964 to pursue his Bachelor of Humanities studies, graduating in 1968 as a Journalist with unanimous distinction.

The news was “his life.” Awarded and recognized “for the just and sinners”, for her, the truth “was not compromised” and said she firmly believed in “democracy, in the responsibility of politicians, in equal opportunities -real-, in solidarity, in freedom and friends ”, as described in the site of Radio Cooperativa, where he worked as a journalist since 1979.

With a solid experience in national and international journalism, the journalist graduated from the University of Chile, Manola Robles, throughout the more than 50 years of journalistic practice, stood out for her tireless work in the defense of human rights, especially in the times of dictatorship in Chile.

In the 80s, Robles was a well-known reporter for Radio Cooperativa in the area of ​​the Economy, in addition to covering fronts such as education, transportation, among others. With an inexhaustible energy, the professional covered seven news fronts at the same time.

Within his career between 1964 and 1967 he worked for Radio Agricultura, Revista Latinoamericana Nueva Plan, Siete Días and Radio Chilena. Since 1979 he worked at Radio Cooperativa and since 1990 at the Diario Fortín Mapocho. In addition, she was a press advisor to former President Patricio Aylwin, and was also between 2001 and 2005 a press officer at the Chilean Embassy in Argentina and later at the Chilean Embassy in Spain.

However, he not only delivered his knowledge, talent and professionalism in Chile. The journalist Manola Robles collaborated especially in Mexican newspapers, becoming a correspondent for Diario Milenio and El Universal in the 1990s. Having worked in newspapers, magazines, news agencies, TV and radio, the latter was “her weakness”, as she herself confessed.

Throughout his career, he participated in more than fifty seminars on economics, in Chile and in the United States, developed by the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, ECLAC, United Nations, University of Chile, among other entities.

In addition, the journalist from the U. de Chile received innumerable awards. Among them the Award of the Chilean Radio Broadcasters Association (ARCHI), Las Condes University Award, Lifetime Achievement Award in National Journalism, College of Journalists and Association of Women Journalists, and in 2009 he received a distinction for his commitment to defense of human rights, granted by the Central Unitary of Workers of Chile, (CUT).

Among the most outstanding awards received in his career is the José Martí Latin American Journalism Prize and later his participation as a Jury of the same.

Until her last days, Manola Robles continued to contribute to the journalistic mission. From 2010 to date, she has worked as editor of the Opinion area on the Cooperativa.cl site, being in charge of the columns in the areas of politics, economics, culture, sports, among others.
