The Children’s Ombudsman premiered this Monday a song -with its corresponding video- within the framework of the “2020 Rights Campaign”, where two local artists call on children and young people to participate in citizen processes.

The song, titled “The call of nature” and sung by Jaco Sánchez (Pablo Ilabaca, ex Chancho en Piedra and composer of 31 Minutos) and the Mapuche rapper MC Millaray, has not been without controversy, because in part of your handwriting, says the following.

“All that false morality has already collapsed / The banners show the social demand / I feel that you must empower yourself and fly / Skip all the turnstiles / So the constituent process will have strength, meaning and reason with your voice.”

Immediately, the song was criticized by the Undersecretary for Children, Carol Bown, who expressed her “concern” about the issue.

“More than jumping turnstiles, the invitation should be to participate, to get involved, and to build together the country we dream of. Violence is not the means to demand respect for rights,” he added.

“We believe in the participation of children, in freedom of expression, that they must be listened to and influence matters in Chile but in a safe and adequate environment, without putting their physical and mental integrity at risk. The call of nature does not it could be inciting violence, “he concluded.

Criticism at the UDI

The UDI also reacted. In fact, deputies Osvaldo Urrutia and Cristhian Moreira questioned the head of the organization, Patricia Muñoz, for authorizing the dissemination of the song.

In this regard, the union parliamentarians assured that the campaign led by the defender of Children, Patricia Muñoz, “incites insurrection and civil disobedience, which is something truly unacceptable coming from an institution that is public and receives a state funding to carry out this type of campaign ”.

“Instead of ensuring the protection of hundreds of children who continue to be used by adults in violent demonstrations, the current ombudsman for Children is more concerned with making a true apology for violence, civil disobedience and breaking the rules and norms in our country, calling on minors to skip the turnstiles as happened last year, which led to unusual violence that we all remember, ”said the legislators.

For the same reason, both UDI deputies called on the head of the organization to “not normalize mass evasions” and to withdraw the song chosen for the campaign as soon as possible, in addition to any audiovisual material that goes along the same lines.

“We have been trying for years to raise awareness to combat evasion in public transport, and from one minute to the next the Ombudsman for Children threatens to throw everything away, making an explicit call to break the rules, without mediating the dire consequences that it can provoke and forgetting that being the head of the organization has the obligation to be the first to set an example for all minors ”, stressed Urrutia and Moreira.
