Two Companies Announce Reduction in Water Rates for 5 Years | Economy

The Minister of Public Works, Alfredo Moreno, in the company of the superintendent of Sanitary Services (SISS), Jorge Rivas, and regional mayors; reported this Wednesday that the SISS, Essbio and Nuevosur agreed to a reduction to the maximum applicable rates after extending the current tariff decree for five years.

The decrease will be effective from September 2021.

Essbio agreed to a reduction of the 1.3% at the maximum applicable rates; and Nuevosur 1.9%.

In addition, both companies agreed with the SISS to start a process together to incorporate new investments in works that make it possible to face the extreme drought and compensate the cost in tariffs that these additional works will represent, which will be calculated and applied based on the law that regulates this matter.

Essbio is the second largest water utility in the country and provides drinking water, sewerage and sewage treatment services to more than 842,000 customers in the regions of O’Higgins, Bío Bío and Ñuble.

For its part, Nuevosur provides services in the region of Maule, serving 280 thousand clients that translates into more than one million people.
