The president of United States, Donald Trump, will be transferred this afternoon to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, a hospital on the outskirts of Washington, to assess his health, hours after testing positive for Covid-19.
According to White House sources cited by local media, Trump will be taken in the helicopter Marine One the hospital that American presidents have traditionally attended.
The visit is “For caution”a Trump Administration official told The Washington Post, adding that the president could stay there for several days.
The 74-year-old president meets several of the risk factors for developing more serious symptoms of Covid-19, due to his age, gender and obesity.
Trump has not tweeted since the early morning, when he announced that he had tested positive, and this Friday he let his vice president, Mike pence, replaced him in a telematic meeting with governors after having confirmed his contagion, while his campaign announced the temporary suspension of his electoral acts.
Earlier today, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, told reporters that Trump is experiencing “mild symptoms”.
