The National Confederation of Land Freight Transportation of Chile (CNTC), is still waiting for the approval of several of the 13 points sent to Congress on labor safety, a situation that the union accused has been processed slowly.

In parallel, and given the few advances made by the government, the truck drivers’ unions are asking the concessionaires to take charge of the attacks on their routes and provide security areas for the workers.

The vice president of the Federation of Truck Owners of the Fifth Region, Gerardo Abarca, said that time has passed since the mobilization and that not much has been achieved. At the work tables they tried to present the situation and there has been no progress.

In September, truckers staged a nationwide strike demanding that the government modernize the safety law, they sent 13 points for study and only a few have been approved.

Although there is a working group established in Santiago, the drivers claim a lack of empathy on the part of the Senate when it comes to approving the Juan Barrios Law.

The president of the Federation of Truck Owners of the Fifth Region, Iván Mateluna, said they are still waiting for a response from the new Interior Minister, Rodrigo Delgado.

In case of not receiving a response, the drivers will get off the dialogue table and press “the way they know how”, sliding the possibility of resuming the mobilizations that led to the union’s national strike.

Fedequinta’s union accused not of being satisfied with the solutions provided by the Government and await a prompt response regarding the Juan Barrios Law, in honor of the truck driver of the same name who died after an arson attack against his truck last February.
