A tragedy with alcohol as the protagonist was recorded at dawn this Saturday at km 460 of Route 5 North, near the Sindempart sector, resulting in death.
Lieutenant Sebastián Molina of the Siat de Carabineros explained that there were two accidents, the first involved a minor vehicle and minutes later a truck ran over said mobile.
According to information gathered by El Día, the first accident occurred after 3:00 in the morning, when the driver of a Station Wagon lost control of the car, crashing into the berm.
People would have come to help, who were pushing the car to get it out of the middle of the road, when a truck that was moving from south to north hits it, dragging it about 200 meters and running over one of the subjects, who unfortunately died in the place.
According to information from the Carabineros, after the application of the alcotest at the site of the event, the truck driver would not have registered alcohol consumption and would have his documentation up to date, however who was driving the minor vehicle would have registered 0.96 g / l , in addition to having the driver’s license and all the expired mobile documents.
For their part, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that they had already requested the alcohol and reports from the Siat, so that detainees have not yet been registered.
Traffic accidents
“During the first day of National Holidays, we carried out seventy alcohol tests and 1 breathalyzer within the framework of the preventive inspection plan with Senda. But beyond the numbers, the important thing here is to reiterate once again, that alcohol and driving do not go hand in hand. Last year, we regretted 15 accidents in which there was, in one way or another, interference of alcoholic beverages, and we do not want to repeat or increase that number in 2020, ”said the Prefect of Coquimbo, Colonel Carlos Rojas.
This year, during September 17 and 18, there were seven traffic accidents in the Coquimbo region, six of them in the Elqui province and one in Limarí, however, unlike 2019, this 2020 there are fatalities.
“Therefore, I must be emphatic and ask people to be responsible, to celebrate in their homes and in a safe way. Think that an accident not only involves the person, but always affects or affects others, such as the example of what happened on Saturday night on the road. Today more than ever, we have superior reasons for not leaving our homes, so let’s take care of ourselves and respect the rules to enjoy safe national holidays, ”concluded Rojas.
