This Thursday afternoon it was known that the deputies Natalia Castillo and Pablo Vidal resigned from the Democratic Revolution (RD), although apparently they would not be the only ones.
The party faces resignations from militants who allude to a supposed classical left polarization as one of the reasons to leave the store, and eventually the Broad Front.
Asked in this regard, the also deputy Frente Amplio Gael Yeomans told the press that their decision took her by surprise and that he hopes to talk with them to find out what happened and what is in store for them.
“I know that there is debate in all the parties regarding what is coming in the future. I hope that in the Frente Amplio we will give that debate in depth, through dialogue. So far I think we have been able to resolve our differences, so I hope your decision has nothing to do (with conversations about) the future. But as I was saying, the truth is that I am unaware of what their reasons are, ”he commented.
Through a letter to which Bío Bío had access, Vidal indicated that “after a long and hard process of personal reflection, a few weeks ago I made the decision to resign from the Democratic Revolution, which I communicated to the party president in a timely manner.”
“Today it seems that the Democratic Revolution renounced the audacity and conviction to lead. I would like to believe that things can be different. I would like the RD to be determined to lead a transformative center-left process alongside social democratic, socialist, progressive, liberal, green and feminist visions, but the signs that RD has preferred a path where a classic left pole is consolidated are varied and consistent, on a path where I believe that an identity of challenge and testimony is privileged, dancing to the rhythms of a music alien to those that inspired us in the beginning ”, he wrote.
After that, he stated that he thought that the new path outlined makes more sense to most of the militancy, so he wishes them “with all my heart the best of luck when traveling it” and that it is “out of honesty with myself (that) I cannot accompany them ”.
“The next two years will be the most important in the political and social history of Chile for the last 40 years, and probably the next 40 as well. The success of the constitutional process is the main responsibility our generation has with Chile. Reaching 2⁄3 of the convention and winning the next presidential election should be an ethical imperative for those of us who understand the damage that the right does to the country when it is in power (…). I am sure that very soon we will meet again under the star of a common project. My vocation and affection remains, we will continue working to comply with Chile. Let no one distract us, let nothing stop us ”, he closed.
