A trunk bus of the public transport system of the Metropolitan Region fell on Thursday night to the bed of the Mapocho river, at the intersection of Diagonal José María Caro and Recoleta avenues.

“A smaller vehicle was driving on José María Caro heading west and the Transantiago vehicle was driving on Mac Iver heading north. A collision occurred at this intersection for investigated causes, and as a result of this, the driver of the older vehicle lost control and the entire vehicle falls to the side of the Mapocho River. Both injured drivers and a passenger from the older vehicle are found. All investigative steps are being carried out to establish the circumstances and dynamics of this traffic accident and also to establish witnesses. Fortunately, no pedestrians were injured as a result of this, because the vehicle passed over the fence that prevents people from falling into the river, ”Carabineros commander Marco Jiménez told 24 Hours.

The tour 308 machine attempted to bypass the car. The maneuver, however, culminated with the passenger vehicle falling to the edge of the channel.

A traffic light was operating at the intersection, which was replaced by a Pare disc after the protests of the outbreak of October 18.

“Many times the custom is lost with regard to facing this signaling, but they are causes that are investigated,” said Commander Jiménez.

Volunteers from the Santiago Fire Department came to rescue the driver and a passenger from the bus who were injured by the incident.

The injured were referred to nearby healthcare centers.
