Shock in the world of golf and world sport. Historic American golfer Tiger Woods was in a serious car accident in Los Angeles and is hospitalized in a nearby medical compound, authorities said.
The accident occurred on the morning of February 23, when Woods’ car collided near Rancho Palos Verdes.
Woods was pulled out by firefighters and transported to the hospital. According to his manager, he is undergoing surgery for “multiple leg injuries.”

“At approximately 07.12 hours (15.12 GMT), the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision in Rancho Palos Verdes. The vehicle sustained significant damage,” the police said in a statement.
According to that source, “The driver and sole occupant was identified as golfer Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods.”
“Woods was rescued from the accident with the ‘jaws of life’ (hydraulic rescue tools) by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, and then transferred to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries, “said that department.

Several local media referred to Woods’ condition as “critical”, although there is no official communication to support that so far.
Woods, 45, was in the area to play the annual Genesis Invitational golf tournament at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, near Santa Monica in Los Angeles, according to the magazine TMZ.
Woods is one of the most successful golfers of all time, with a record 683 weeks at the world’s number one position, most recently from March 2013 to May 2014.
The cypress, California-born golfer has won the Augusta Masters five times; three the US Open; and another three the British Open, among other titles from his record.
