The monitoring of the patent of the motorcycle used to commit the threats, and a series of proceedings led by the Special Police Investigations Brigade (Bipe) of the PDI, concluded this Thursday in a massive operation that began to take place at 6 am. The procedure ended with eight people arrested as suspects of death threats against the chief prosecutor of Alta Complexidad Centro Norte, Ximena Chong.

The eight accused -Gabriel Jara Vivanco, Daniel Goldberger Garcés, Solange Aravena Méndez, Paula Narváez Orrego, Osvaldo Díaz Valdés, Benjamín Zaragoza Wotherspoon, Pablo Martínez Castro and Fernando Hasler Martínez- They were formalized in the 7th Court of Guarantee of Santiago for the possible crimes of threats, possession of prohibited weapons of warlike use and for the illegal possession of ammunition.

The precautionary measures, the court will define the morning of this Friday, after defining a recess of the hearing.

The investigation, led by the prosecutor Francisco Jacir, determined that the defendants participated in the threats made on October 6 at Chong’s home, in Providencia.

They arrived at the house of the persecutor in three cars and two motorcycles. There they left Chong’s son a letter in which the death threats were made explicit. Jacir assured that said letter contained a “direct, serious and credible” message.

All this, according to the Public Ministry, motivated by the hearing that the persecutor starred in days before, when he formalized the former rabbi Sebastián Zamora for having driven a teenager to the Mapocho River in the midst of protests. Once at the scene, all the accused participated in the event. Two of them delivering the letter and the rest guarding the place and its surroundings.

The defendants are part of a far-right group called “We still have a country.” In one of the addresses a 9mm caliber submachine gun was seized, with a magazine with 17 9mm rounds, in addition to other species. Jacir also revealed that, according to the background of the investigation, the threats were planned at a home in Las Condes, located in Apoquindo 6550, which was also raided.

In the case, it was ruled out that some of the suspects were active or retired uniforms. This, since the PDI, hours after the prosecutor received the letter with threats, carried out an identity check on a Carabineros lieutenant. That episode generated the annoyance of the national prosecutor himself, Jorge Abbott, who this time communicated his discomfort directly to the then Minister of the Interior, Victor Pérez.

The director of the PDI, Hector Espinosa, referred to the case and said that “This is not an isolated or circumstantial event. In a property this is planned. We are investigating if they are related to other threats ”.

Jacir requested preventive detention for the eight defendants. At the end of this edition, said precautionary was still being discussed.
