Hooded men shot dead a forest worker in the chest in a new arson attack that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Collipulli commune, La Araucanía Region, in another serious act of violence in the Mapuche conflict zone. “We are going to persecute all forms of violence,” said the undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli.

The attack took place on the Curaco road, where eight hooded and armed individuals intercepted a van with workers from a forestry operation and forced them to descend and then burn the vehicle.

Then the hooded men shot the worker Pedro Cabrera Benavides, 49, and they fled, leaving placards alluding to the Mapuche demands. The victim was transferred first to the Collipulli hospital and later to the Angol hospital, where he died due to the severity of the injuries.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office of La Araucanía and the PDI began to investigate the homcide, while Mayor Víctor Manoli condemned this new attack and described it as a “vile, terrorist attack with large caliber weapons.”

According to the spokeswoman for the prosecution, Daniela San Martín, “At the site of the event, projectiles fired by shotgun and weapons of war were raised.

It was also pointed out that the victim was the father of two girls aged 14 and 5. “I call on the public to condemn these acts. We as the government strongly condemn them, but we also need your help to be able to arrest all these criminals,” the regional authority emphasized.
