Organizations that defend the rights of sexual minorities announced that they will present a protection appeal against the UDI, accusing her of discrimination and incitement to hatred for a sequence on the television strip of the constitutional plebiscite.
The Iguales Foundation and the Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (Movilh) announced separately the presentation of protection appeals against the UDI, requesting the withdrawal of a segment.
The episode in question is about a scene from the space granted to civil organizations, where a man carries the LGBTI flag to indicate that “the evangelical church is in danger, we are going to go out and defend it”, which is followed with images of acts of violence.
The leader of Movilh, Oscar Rementerúa, replied that “the rainbow flag represents the human rights of LGBTI people. By linking it to dangers and the destruction of the country or institutions, we are in the presence of an open incitement to hatred. We regret the lack of oversight by the National Television Council (CNTV), whose duty is to ensure compliance with the law and its own guidelines ”.
For her part, Alessia Injoque, president of Iguales, stated that: “We are open to any discussion of ideas, you are free to point out that a proposal is a threat, it is unacceptable for them to say that LGBTI people would be a danger. It is enough to compensate for the lack of proposals, using spaces financed with state money, to spread fear and hatred. We make a call to raise the level of the debate, putting people at the center ”.
